About nephrite
Nephrite is a calcium magnesium amphibole (actinolite–tremolite series) and one of the two true jade minerals, the other being jadeite. It typically appears in shades of green—from creamy, light 'mutton fat' white-green through medium spinach-green to dark green—and can also be brown, gray or black. Nephrite is exceptionally tough due to its densely interlocking fibrous structure, with Mohs hardness around 6–6.5, making it ideal for carvings, beads and bangles.
